Chaka Khan

  Chaka Khan is an American singer-songwriter who has an estimated net value of $30,000. Chaka Khan is frequently called the "Queen of Funk-Soul". Khan is a 10 time Grammy Award Winner whose career is more than 40 years long. She was raised in a bohemian, artistic family living in Chicago, Illinois. She is the eldest of five children of Beatniks Charles Stevens (and Sandra Coleman). Khan was a huge fan of blues and rhythm at an early age and, at the age of 11, she formed a girl group, The Crystalettes. In her teen years, Khan attended several civil right rallies, and later became a member of the Black Panther Party after befriending activist and close friend Chicago native Fred Hampton in 1967. A Yoruba Baba named her Chaka Adunne Hodarhi Karifi at the age of she was just 13 years old. In 1969, Khan left the Black Panthers and dropped out of high school. Khan began to perform in small groups throughout the Chicago area. They scored more than eight platinum records during the remainder of the decade. The band gained popularity as a live act as well as Khan was the star attraction, thanks to her colorful costumes and strong vocals.
